Right-hander Lucas Giolito and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a two-year, $38.5 million contract, sources told ESPN, locking up the innings-eating veteran as the starting pitching market begins to move.

The deal includes an opt-out after the first season and includes innings-based performance bonuses that can bring the total value to $40.5 million.

Josh Hader remains unsigned, in part because the reliever is looking for a contract "north" of the five-year, $102 million deal Edwin Diaz received from the New York Mets last offseason.

The New York Yankees, Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers are among the clubs interested in Hader.

The left-hander posted a 1.28 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 56.1 innings for the San Diego Padres in 2023.

Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery are the leading starters on the market now that Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto have landed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Snell and Montgomery, a pair of lefties, are drawing interest from the Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox and other clubs.

Meanwhile, the New York Mets have been linked to the next tier of starters -- Shota Imanaga and Lucas Giolito.

The Boston Red Sox have cast a wide net this offseason.

In addition to looking for starting pitching, the Red Sox have also shown interest in reliever Robert Stephenson and infielder Amed Rosario, according to a report.

Boston has also been linked to outfielder Teoscar Hernandez.

The Cincinnati Reds are bringing back Buck Farmer on a one-year, $2.25 million deal.

Farmer hit free agency after he went 4-5 with three saves and a 4.20 ERA in 71 appearances for the Reds this past season.

He can earn $350,000 in performance bonuses for games pitched: $50,000 each for 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 and 65. He had a $1.75 million, one-year contract this past season.

Four-time Gold Glove-winning shortstop Andrelton Simmons has announced his retirement.

Simmons, 34, is a veteran of 11 Major League seasons.

He was a second-round pick of the Atlanta Braves in 2010. He debuted two years later.

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a one-year, $1.8 million deal with left-handed reliever Tim Hill.

Hill, 33, was 1-4 with a 5.48 ERA in 48 appearances for the San Diego Padres last year. He missed most of the second half of the season because of a sprained left finger and had surgery on Sept. 20.

The San Francisco Giants are still "big-game hunting" on the free agent market as they look to add star power to their roster, according to a report.

The Giants targeted and missed out on Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

According to the report, San Francisco is in on Blake Snell, Matt Chapman and Cody Bellinger.

The New York Mets continue to seek rotation help after missing out on Japanese right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

One of New York's leading targets is Lucas Giolito as they are showing "strong interest" in the pitcher.

The same report states that the Mets aren't expected to pursue Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery.

The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to terms with Isiah Kiner-Falefa on a two-year, $15 million contract, according to a source.

The deal includes up to $1 million in incentives and is pending a physical.

Kiner-Falefa, 28, played all over the field for the New York Yankees in 2023.
